Weird, I couldn’t create a redlink, the create redlink option didn’t pop up on the menu. I had to disable and then enable the extension for it to show. Hmmm, perhaps that is what blocked other people from creating red links?
My finished-product in mind before coding idea for programming paid off, it turns out I didn’t know what I was doing. Lots of time and work saved. But that leaves me few options now. Either going nuclear and saying everything that I know(which would require me revisit old ideas and formalize them) or… perhaps going back to red-link and correcting this nasty bug? Decisions…
I’m sick today so I’m just sort of taking the day off, though I did think about my new simpler/narrow project and realized it would suck.
I could just say some of the stuff I know… get people to use my website… and hope people don’t find out about the rest. It did take me a few weeks to go from point A to B. If history serves of anything that would be a few decades of leeway before someone reached me.
Now, that sounds great… you lose money for someone to take your daughter, get her pregnant and send her back! I’m laughing here but I shouldn’t be.
It’s easy to lose sight of the final product when you are too perfectionist and feel a duty to understand every little piece.
I lost about an hour today just thinking about what happens when 2 people have the same session ID…. a problem larhely theoretical that would only affect my website if I were rich already… everything that worked in my favor as a great scientist is coming against me as an entrepreneur….
A new idea for development(besides the dividing of logs and data), going straight to the final design(concept) and then building everything from there.
Looking back, I probably did it that way when my last successful program was launched more than 10 years ago. Visual Basic almost forces you to design while you code.
If I fail even using both new developtment pathways I have come up with in the last few days, I will resign myself to being a scientist and hop society grants me vouchers and free lunches. I really would rather have financial independence and some degree of anonimity… but I won’t sacrifice success for that.
Kinda stopped developing… taking a rest.
If I could give you, dear reader(s? perhaps being presumptious here), a tip when developing a website it would be to separate user action logging from analysis of said data. That’s because you are always going to analise things differently after a few weeks… it’s a temptation to just streamline everything from user_click to data_base change but avoid it.
Example: suppose I want to record views in a document. A straight-forward way of implementing this would be to create a counter… but what if a user is flooding views? You would have to scrap previous views. Log_user_view… then… analise user_action… then change view counter 🙂
That applies to everything btw. Data_submition, likes/kudos, whatever…
Feeling tired right now…
Hmmm, yeah, maybe that’s why… I’ve just eaten a lot of chicken’s heart plus rice and then a basket of small breads… It could also be because I woke up 3am and it’s now 3pm, *smile*
I’ve decided to compromise and go towards a narrow goal while doing eveything in a way that will fit in a larger more comprehensive project later…
Doing something too narrow would betray my style… but doing all data relationships I want to from scratch could be too painful… I guess I’ll release a prototype… and hope it gets people using it…
